We haven’t seen Jeff Monson (who has been exiled from the UFC) in a while, not because he lacks skill in fighting but due to the face he’s a complete lunatic. He’s been fighting often for any league that would have him and has racked up a lopsided record against sub-par talent. He’s up against Olympian Daniel Cormier (right), who is a beast and looks like he didn’t bother to cut any weight before the fight.
Jeff Monson is no slouch, he won the Abu Dhabi grappling competition and as Cagepotato points out, Monson has as many wins by North-South choke (7) as Cormier has total fights. Monson says he’s dropping down to light heavy after this. Definitely a good plan because at 5'9" he is too small to hang with modern heavyweights who are cutting down to 265. He’d be a beast at light heavy, but is looking like he’s carrying some extra weight for this one. Still not looking as doughy as Cormier, however.

Round 1-Lot of clinching, Cormier appears to be getting the better of Monson in the striking. Cormier looks very explosive with a lot of pop to his punches. Monson is bleeding out of the top of his head.
Cormier lands a nice left hook. Monson is bleeding pretty badly. Monson is really not getting it done on the feet so far. He needs to take it to the ground. Someone in his corner should tell Monson that he hasn’t ended a fight with strikes since 2004.
Round 2-Cormier is really teeing of on Monson. Cormier is a boxer in the walk-straight-forward-throwing-punches-without-moving-the-head school of boxing also favored by Brett Rogers. Frank Shamrock praises his nonexistent head movement. Someone must have pre-written his commentary before the fight. Cormier is really just beating up Monson because he knows Monson poses no threat on his feet.
Round 3-Monson needs to try something different. Cormier lands a huge combo, but Monson has a good chin and takes it like a man. Cormier goes for the Superman punch and lands cleanly. Monson is fucked up. Jesus Monson is getting killed. Getting up really slowly now. Round’s over. Monson lost.
