Michael Bisping looked like he stuck his head into the business end of a woodchipper after winning a workmanlike 48–47 decision against Anderson Silva on UFC Fight Night 84 in London.

It wasn’t even that bad of a decision. Anderson didn’t look like he was trying in the first two rounds. Instead he performed his usual clowning routine, not throwing punches and even stood with his back to the cage with his hands down at one point. Bisping legitimately staggered the apparently chinny-as-fuck Silva at the end of both the first two rounds.

In a bizarre round 3, Silva initially kept fighting like a guy who didn’t lose the first two rounds. However at the end of the round, Bisping lost his mouth guard and thought referee Herb Dean should call a timeout, while he was in a pretty bad position with Silva chasing him around the ring. It ended with Silva landing a devastating knee that floored the mouth guard-less Bisping right before the horn at the end of the round.

Both fighters thought it was over. Silva assumed he won and jumped on the cage. Bisping seemed to think he had lost and didn’t go back to his corner.

I was pretty sure Silva had finished the fight, but Herb Dean does not stop a middleweight fight until one fighter is limp, with curled toes.

The cutman didn’t even try to fix Bisping’s face, so he went out for round 4 with his face dripping blood.

I had Silva winning round 4 on my card. To me he just landed the cleaner, better shots. But if you were listening to announcer Dan Hardy you could have been swayed, since he’s the worst homer on earth.

Silva won round 5 for sure. Bisping looked awful. The result should have been Silva by KO-3 in my book. As it was, I scored the fight 48–47 Silva on my card. Honestly, Silva gave the impression he really could have won that fight easily if he had just stepped on the gas at some point during the first ten minutes.

The final takeaway: Anderson Silva still possesses otherworldly skills, but he may need to fight smarter in the future as his chin and quickness are not where they used to be.
